and strengthening the efforts for maternal and child health
through counselling as well as service delivery. The main strategies
of the project were: |
| |
|

the CPR by 8% points from baseline CPR of 41.6% by registering
1,387 new acceptors. But in case of AMU, increase of the CPR
by 10% points from the existing CPR of 38.5% by registering

4382) and supply of condoms to 40% of all spacing clients (IMA-approx.
2268 clients and AMU – approx. 2450 clients). |
|
Hundred percent registration
of all pregnant women, three ante-natal check-ups, two doses
of tetanus toxoid and 100 IFA tablets to 80% pregnant women
in both the areas. |
|
Providing immunization to 3059
(IMA) and 4083 (AMU) children every year through 85% complete
primary immunization coverage |
|
Providing immunization to 11,218
(IMA) and 10,568 (AMU) children every year through 60% complete
immunization coverage of children of the age group 1-5 years |
| |
An office was set-up in Aligarh
with a Project Manager, an Accountant and a lady doctor for
coordinating and networking with stakeholders for supplies
and referrals in both the areas. The health posts were made
functional in March 2003 with one doctor, ten social workers
and five ANMs. Sixty six Community Based Distributors (CBDs)
were appointed in the project area for distribution of contraceptives
and other heath related supplies. Field based activities
like immunization camps and IEC activities like Health Melas,
baby shows and group meetings etc. were arranged by the IMA
on a regular basis, while health camps were arranged through
the AMU, at fixed points on a regular basis with the help
of the project doctor. The field level IEC activities were
also organized. The project ended in November 2004 and the
end-line evaluation was carried out by SIFPSA.
