Comprehensive Reproductive and Child Health Programme for Malto Tribals in Jharkhand State

In a major initiative to improve RCH services in tribal areas, the PFI is supporting a project ‘Comprehensive Reproductive and Child Health Programme for Malto Tribals in Sahibganj District of Jharkhand’ to be implemented by the Prem Jyoti Community Health and Development Project (CHDP) of the Emmanuel Hospital Association. This will provide services to a population of 1,14,000 Malto tribals residing in the Rajmahal Hills over a period of three years.

Covering 140 villages grouped into 11 clusters, the project will, as its primary strategy, promote village level primary healthcare amongst Malto tribals. This will be done with the help of trained community volunteers, coupled with Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) activities in the absence of government health services in these remote tribal areas.

A 12-bed health centre with facilities for basic lab and X-Ray investigations, emergency medical treatment and Obstetric and surgical services at Chandragodda will serve as a referral centre. The centre will support an outreach service through a mobile clinic, which will provide basic Reproductive Health services in the project area.
