Effective
Management of Primary Health Centre (PHC) Set up through
Panchayati Raj Institution Members (Model project for Haryana)

The PFI in collaboration
with Vardaan Consultants, Baroda and S M Sehgal Foundation,
Gurgaon started this project. The project is covering the
block PHC area of Firojpur Jhirka of Gurgaon district of
Haryana. |

To develop a feasible strategy involving Panchayati Raj
Institution members for effective management of the PHC set
up, so that the sustainability and quality of care become
the core issues for its resident population. |

S M Sehgal Foundation, Gurgaon
was selected as a supportive partner to Vardaan Consultants
in implementing the project. Prior to preparation of Action
Plan for implementation, a sensitization workshop was organized
at the PFI. Government health functionaries, PRI members
of the project area, representatives of the Sehgal Foundation,
Vardaan Consultants and the PFI participated at the workshop

| An extensive literature
review on the Haryana Panchayat Raj System has been carried
out followed by a baseline survey. Orientation workshops
have been conducted for PRIs, PHC staff and NGO volunteers.
Village level meetings and meetings with healthcare providers
have been conducted to create a proper coordination mechanism
with PRIs. |

The PRI members have been
helpful in carrying out various health related activities
at the village level such as renovation of sub-centres, cleaning
of village lanes, installation of dustbins and construction
of pucca roads etc.
