Safe Motherhood through RCH Intervention in Rajasthan

The PFI in association with four implementing agencies, namely (a) Shikshit Rojgar Kendra Prabandhak Samity (SRKPS), Jhunjhunu, (b) Shiv Shiksha Samiti (SSS), Tonk, (c) Social Work and Environment for Rural Advancement (SWERA), Ajmer, and (d) Action Research and Training for Health (ARTH), Udaipur started this project during the year under report.

The project over a period of three years will cover 23 villages in Alsisar block of Jhunjhunu district covering a population of 26,076 with the help of SRKPS, 19 villages in Peeplu block of Tonk district covering a population of 22,381 with the help of SSS, 20 Villages in Srinagar, Araei and Silora blocks of Ajmer district covering a population of 15,828 with the help of SWERA. The organisation called ARTH will act as a Technical Support Agency at Udaipur.

The main objectives of the project are to:

  •

Train and build capacities of the project level stakeholders including ANMs, AWWs, PRI members, women SHG members, etc. for improving the quality of RCH services in general and safe motherhood in particular.
Sensitise the target community on safe motherhood and RCH through intensive IEC/ BCC activities, and
Deliver quality safe motherhood and RCH services by establishing health centers accessible to all the target villages.

After the MoU was signed with all the agencies, the project staff were recruited by the implementing agencies. Orientation training was given to the project staff by ARTH on RH and how to set up a community based 24 hour centre for maternal health services.

The identification of Nurse-Midwives, who were trained by ARTH for 3 months, was done by the NGOs for their project areas. ARTH developed a manual for training nurses. Also, the space to start the maternal health centre was identified within the project area and necessary equipment purchased based on the suggestions given by ARTH.

The Village Health Workers (VHWs) and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) have been identified in all the villages and orientation training was started. The field clinics plans have been made and the nurse midwives are visiting the field in turn as planned.
