RCH Projects with Corporate Sector
 

Total Integrated Package for Dewas District in Madhya Pradesh

 

Through this joint venture, PFI and Ranbaxy Community Health Care Society covered half of Dewas block with a population of around 1,00,000 in Madhya Pradesh. The main objectives of the project were:

Community sensitization and mobilization activities on safe motherhood, reproductive health and integrated management of childhood illnesses.
Provision of RCH services through a mobile clinic.
Training of grassroot health providers like TBAs, Health workers, traditional healers, ANMs and volunteers etc.
Building of referral linkages with the existing government health institutions.
   

The following activities were carried out during the first phase (three years starting from November 2001 to March 2005 including no-cost extension of 4 months) of the project:

 
RCH services were provided to 29 villages and five urban centres through the mobile van.
The grassroots health personnel like Dais, community health volunteers, anganwadi workers and Gram Swasthya Samiti members were trained on RCH and other related issues.
Networking was done with Government for health and contraceptive supplies, training hall, resource persons for training, care of the referral cases. Linkages were made with anganwadi centres for awareness programmes.
IEC and counseling activities were carried out and review meetings with stakeholders were held from time to time.
A total of 343 field visits were made covering 9937 beneficiaries in the project area.
Maternal and child health services were provided to the target audience.
A total of 15444 home visits were made.
Other activities like group discussions, demonstrations, video film shows, lectures and meetings were arranged on days like Blood Transfusion day, World AIDS Day, Mentally Disabled Day, New born Week, Leprosy Day and the World TB Day.
Campaigns on AIDS and female foeticide were organized at two of the service centres.
Campaigns (lectures and other IEC activities) for adolescent health were organized in 18 centres where 1500 adolescents and teachers from 20 schools participated.
A hundred and fifty patients were treated at two health melas organized in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, District Health Department and local Panchayats.
   

The project has been extended for another two years from April 2005.
