Background

The Global Fund and Population Foundation of India (PFI) have signed a grant agreement on 7th March 2005 to implement the project, “Access to Care and Treatment (ACT)” in the six HIV/AIDS high prevalence states, namely, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur and Nagaland of India. The first phase of the project is from 1st April 2005 to 31st March 2007. This project is a public - private sector partnership where the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) provides Antiretroviral Treatment (ART) at the public health facilities. The PFI led NGO/Private sector consortium provides ongoing care and support and follow-up services for people receiving ART in the NACO programme and to the people not on ART.
