Advocacy for Perspective Building on ICPD and National Population Policy 2000

The project “Advocacy for Perspective Building on ICPD and National Population Policy 2000” is a new advocacy initiative by Population Foundation of India on issues of population and development. The two year project is supported by Packard Foundation and is currently being implemented at the national level and in Bihar and in Jharkhand. The project aims at perspective building on critical issues in population, reproductive health and reproductive rights among key stakeholders towards influencing policies and programmes. The sections involved in the project include the Judiciary, Media, Bureaucrats, Elected Representatives, Corporates and NGOs.

The project entails identifying partner organizations and key resource persons, developing appropriate reference materials, organizing workshops and seminars on relevant issues such as contraception availability, safe abortion, Reproductive and Child Health and other population and health programmes.

A national level seminar on Injectable Contraception organized by Parivar Seva Sanstha was supported under the programme. The programme is being implemented through various partners such as Press Institute of India, Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, Administrative Training Institute, Bihar, AN Sinha Institute, Patna, GIVE Foundation and Confederation of Indian Industry. A national consultation on Safe Abortion Services through Public Health System was organized in May 2005 in collaboration with IPAS and National Institute of Health and Family Welfare.
