The project “Advocacy
for Perspective Building on ICPD and National Population
Policy 2000” is a new advocacy initiative
by Population Foundation of India on issues of population
and development. The two year project is supported by Packard
Foundation and is currently being implemented at the national
level and in Bihar and in Jharkhand. The project aims at
perspective building on critical issues in population,
reproductive health and reproductive rights among key stakeholders
towards influencing policies and programmes. The sections
involved in the project include the Judiciary, Media, Bureaucrats,
Elected Representatives, Corporates and NGOs.
The project entails identifying partner organizations and
key resource persons, developing appropriate reference materials,
organizing workshops and seminars on relevant issues such
as contraception availability, safe abortion, Reproductive
and Child Health and other population and health programmes.
A national level seminar on Injectable Contraception organized
by Parivar Seva Sanstha was supported under the programme.
The programme is being implemented through various partners
such as Press Institute of India, Lal Bahadur Shashtri National
Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, National Judicial Academy,
Bhopal, Administrative Training Institute, Bihar, AN Sinha
Institute, Patna, GIVE Foundation and Confederation of Indian
Industry. A national consultation on Safe Abortion Services
through Public Health System was organized in May 2005 in
collaboration with IPAS and National Institute of Health
and Family Welfare.
